Background
Shaw Health Care, who hold the contract for the management of WSCC carehome facilities, required demolition work undertaken to make way for care homes as part of a West Sussex County Council directive.
The Works
Type 3 asbestos surveys were prepared by Matthews who also carried out the safe removal of all asbestos-containing materials before commencing soft stripping, structural demolition and site clearance. Matthews undertook the bulk earthworks and also crushed the existing concrete for re-use in the development.
The project covered various locations including Burgess Hill, Bognor Regis, Southbourne, Petworth, Shoreham as well as two sites in Crawley. Initial work commenced in April 2005 in Crawley with the latest project being completed at Shoreham in January 2007.
