BELLWAY HOMES – Hassocks Golf Club

Project Overview

Matthews (Sussex) Ltd were contracted to act as principal contractor for Bellway Homes to undertake the soft strip, asbestos removal and mechanical demolition of the former golf club, green keepers’ warehouse and living accommodation.

 

Particular care had to be taken as there was a live public footpath that went straight past the site as well as part of the golf course remaining live to the existing members.  Boundary fencing was erected, welfare established, and a number of demolition specific pieces of plant arrived on site.  Recycling of material on this site was of particular importance to the client and Matthews made every effort to achieve a recycling rate of over 95%.

  • Hazardous waste removal
  • Demolish superstructure
  • Demolish and remove substructure
  • Bulk excavation and muck away of surplus materials
  • Leave site in a clean, tidy and safe condition

Project Considerations

The live sub-station serving around 50% of Hassocks, this was butted up to the building being demolished and had protection erected to make sure the service wasn’t disturbed.  The local residents and the potential impact to their environment.
