EPSOM HOSPITAL – Epsom Ecology

Project Overview

Matthews (Sussex) Limited were contracted by Morgan Sindall to undertake the demolition of the former Hospital
and various buildings within the site including boiler house and chimney.

The project had a number of constraints, tight access and working next to a live working hospital. The works included
the removal of asbestos materials and then complete soft strip, back to concrete frame. Scaffolding was erected to the West and East elevations, with our high reach demolition excavator we commenced sequential mechanical demolition
from the roof down.

Scope of Works

  • Carry out pre-condition survey
  • Internal Soft Strip
  • Asbestos Removal
  • Ecology works
  • Air quality monitoring
  • Hazardous waste removal
  • Demolish superstructure
  • Demolish and remove substructure
  • Leave site in a clean, tidy and safe condition

Project Considerations

Working next to a live Hospital.

Ecology: working to remove rooftiles by hand in a safe and controlled manner to prevent bat roosting, Roosting takes place between November to March, our works were carried out with the attendance and guidance of licenced Ecologist before any structural demolition could take place.
