May 2009: Matthews commissioned for the two new Lidl stores in New Addington and Norbury
Matthews, following a number of years of successful projects as principal contractor for Lidl Stores, has been commissioned to undertake all enabling works for the two new Lidl stores in New Addington, Surrey and Norbury, South London.
The initial works involved a complete environmental clean up and remediation as both sites had been derelict and awaiting re-development for a number of years. The works included the safe collection and disposal of numerous sharp objects including hypodermic needles and syringes as well as all general fly tipped waste.
Following the initial works, Matthews undertook the reduce level excavation, involving the removal of 12,000 m3 of inert material, which was disposed of at our own facility and the crushing and placement of 2,000 m3 of concrete for use as a piling mat.
A 30 tonne excavator was also supplied to attend the piling rigs to clear all risings and the placement of pile cages.
