Client: States of Jersey
Scope of Works: Dismantling of the 3 floors above the arrivals lounge inclusive of the old control tower.
Value: Confidential at present
Commencement: September 2011- completion March 2012
In August 2011, the States of Jersey awarded Matthews Demolition the contract to carry out deconstruction works to the Arrivals Lounge at Jersey Airport. The original two-storey structure, which was erected in 1938 and is listed, is to remain. The Arrivals Lounge is contained within the ground floor of this structure and is to remain operational whilst the works are carried out, as are the first floor offices above. During the 1960’s and 1970’s various modifications were made, consisting of the addition of a control tower and three floors of offices, which were built directly on top of the original 1938 structure. Matthews Demolition is now in the process of dismantling these structures, a series of operations that require very careful planning and coordination with the airport authorities, so that the smooth running of the Arrivals Lounge remains undisturbed.
